Tough times in Cairo

Fortunately, we do not have any photos for this post. On the evening of the 29th, we both got miserably sick. First it was Shannon and then it struck me. Aparently, we ate or drank something with bacteria in it. We suffered with unimaginable diarrehia, fever, and vomitting for 24 hours until we went to […]

Wandering through Cairo.

Yesterday, Mohammod arranged a private car for us to visit the Step Pyramids (Saqqara) and the Dahshur Pyramid. It only cost 150 Egyptian Pounds, which is roughly $30 US dollars! What a bargain! We were gone for nearly 5 hours. The drive alone through all the small villages was absolutely amazing! We saw heaps of […]

Stunning Cairo

Above: Man on bike is carrying the bread.
Waking this morning in Athens, we found ourselves jittery with excitement and nervousness about flying to
Egypt today! The
Cairo airport was busy and we were swept into the mix. We met a man from the ministry of tourism who quickly escorted us over to a cab. We […]

Athens

Athens was hot! During the afternoon, we slept and got all of our sight-seeing done during early morning and evening hours. We saw the Acropolis (the
Acropolis
Museum was closed as it is in transition to a new location), the

National
Archaeological
Museum, and Ancient Agora. The photos speak for themselves!

Fun and Sun in Santorini

7 days and 6 great nights in Santorini…it really does not get much better than that.  The last post I wrote was right when we arrived on the island and already I knew it was a special place.  We are now in Athens, but I’m still wishing we were back in Santorini.  It is so […]

Santorini… Somthing Special

We are going on our 3rd day here in Santorini and I think we have already fallen in love with this island. In fact, we like it so much we have decided to say here for 7 days and ditch the island “hopping” plan we had. The island is the remains of a huge volcano […]

Pompei & Amalfi: the luxury of spontaneity.

Above: Shanny with the ruins and Mt. Vesuvius in background.
We intended to travel to Greece, but we missed our train to Bari by 5 minutes. Instead of waiting around 6 hours for the next train, we opted for Pompei and Amalfi. Everyone we meet tells us we should make reservations ahead of time, but we […]

Ancient Rome

Above: Roman Colosseum with a portion of the floor reconstructed at far end of photo. All the animals and gladiators were kept in the many sections below the floor.
We had two days to get our fill of Rome. We hussled from one sight to the next to ensure we would hit everywhere: Roman Forum, Colosseum, […]

Cinque Terre

Above: Sunset in Vernazza
Five tiny villages perched upon the cliffs of the Mediteranean, no cars allowed, pastel painted buildings….imagine it…it is the Cinque Terre. We stayed in the picturesque village of Vernazza and although it has changed a lot since I was there 8 years ago…it still holds it’s charm. The mornings and evenings were […]

Leaning Tower of Pisa Stop-over

On our way to Rome, we stopped off in Pisa to see the infamous tower. Oh, it was definitely leaning! (and sinking!) We initially only wanted to stop for a photo opt for my niece, Alley, (She knows the tower from her show “Super Pets” or something.) but it was much cooler than we anticipated. […]
